There are people who just say they're awkward to be cute. And THEN there's Issa Rae, who legit can't walk down a long, obnoxious hallway towards another human without completely over-analyzing the situation and not knowing where to look. At the last minute, she'll turn against the wall because that crack suddenly seems so interesting.

Her 2011 YouTube channel, The Mis-adventures of Awkward Black Girl & Friends, a.k.a AWKWARD Black Girl, is nostalgic and reminds us of what blogs used to be. People used to get famous by making YouTube channels.

Now, Issa Rae is the star and writer for HBO's Insecure. She's the first black woman to star in her own HBO show, and next weekend she's coming to Mizzou!

She also copes with stress with dancing awkwardly (which ends up just stressing her out more because she can't dance.)

She can't even pass a lime without completely making a mess.

Check out her channel to binge-watch Issa before she gets here next weekend.

About This Blog.

I'm a Pittsburgh native pursuing a dual-major in convergence journalism and international studies, and these are the faces I've come to love so far from home. Call it a "humans of mid-Missouri" if you wish. Sometimes I'll post poetry. Sometimes I'll post photos of faces that were never newsworthy, but that doesn't mean there isn't a story behind them. These are the faces of friends, family, and passing strangers in mid-Missouri. They pour a little extra honey into my day, they mentor me, and even as they quickly come and go from my life, they provoke my curiosity.
